"Danny Robins is a comic with real charm and inventiveness..." The Stage
Danny Robins is a presenter, writer, comedian, and journalist.
Danny grew up in Newcastle and went to Bristol University. He made his TV debut fronting the controversial and much talked about Let's Make A Baby for BBC 3's Mischief season - where he fooled the television industry by creating a fake reality show that promised to conceive the world's first Reality TV baby.
Since then, he has appeared on various TV programmes including BBC 2's The Culture Show, BBC 3's The Bullsh*t Detective, where he exposed fake psychics and crystal healers, and a second ‘Mischief’ film, The Great Sperm Crisis, for which Danny toured the UK single-handedly trying to raise the number of sperm donors (and succeeded!).
For the 2010 General Election, Danny was part of BBC 2’s Newsnight team, presenting the Party Anthems strand, where he came up with an ‘election anthem’ for each of the three main parties.
Danny works a lot on radio. He is currently a roving reporter for BBC 5Live's new Sunday morning show We're All In This Together and is 6Music’s ‘Travel Guru’ – doing a weekly ‘Indie Travel Guide’ on Lauren Laverne’s show. He has had his own late night comedy series on Radio 1 and is a regular on Radio 4, appearing on shows such as Front Row, Saturday Review and Jon Ronson On. He hosted his own Radio 4 series Danny Robins Music Therapy and was nominated for a Sony Radio Award for the critically acclaimed The Museum of Everything.
Danny has travelled widely – from South Korea to Egypt, Utah to the Arctic Circle. He even went to Sunderland once. As well as his work on 6Music, he is presenter of the Essential series on Travel Channel and writes a monthly column for Ryanair’s in-flight magazine.
As a writer, he has won a BAFTA and an RTS Award and worked with the likes of Ronnie Barker, Armando Iannucci, Joan Rivers, and even Basil Brush. He co-created and wrote the cult BBC 2 series We Are History and 3 series of the popular Radio 4 sitcom Rudy’s Rare Records, starring Lenny Henry.
Danny also performs live. His DJ Danny show has been a hit at the Edinburgh Festival, been broadcast on BBC Radio 1, and toured nationally and internationally.
Danny is passionate about music, the arts, football and travel. In the line of duty, he has hung out with crazy gun-toting rednecks, gone ghost-hunting and UFO spotting, trained to be a cowboy, entered North Korea, become a Goth and come second in the UK Air Guitar Championship Final (he was cheated). He also bizarrely once had a Number 11 chart hit, but that's a long story - ask him about it when you see him.
